“It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried.”

Therapy often helps by offering a safe space to explore thoughts, feelings and worries. Talking therapy, with a skilled practitioner, can give a deeper understanding of personal issues and help to establish individual coping strategies in order to face life's challenges and build resilience.

Engaging in a good therapeutic relationship, which enables the client to have an open and honest dialogue about any factors which cause distress, is of vital importance in any therapy. Setting up a routine appointment within a regular setting helps to develop trust and a safe place from which to explore, understand and make progress.

Therapy helps people to gain an understanding of the self and other, and locate patterns of relating, and difficulties with self-image and self-confidence, which may have been developed in childhood and can impact mental health in the here and now. Therapy can also help with personal feelings connected with loss, relationship problems, traumatic events, daily stress and pressure, or struggles with self-esteem.

“Success as a therapist is not found in doing something for the client, but rather in being someone for the client. “
